Your First Visit
WELCOME! I am glad you are considering entrusting me with helping your body and you to heal. In truth, since your body is designed to heal, you do as much or more of the work than I ever will. That said, I will be with you for as long as we both agree that my support is continuing your healing.
Creating new patterns for wellness is a shared journey – thank you for allowing me to join you!
Once you have completed a comprehensive intake form, (which I encourage you to print, fill out at home and and bring with you,) we will discuss your symptoms and treatment goals in more detail and determine a treatment plan. I will also explain the treatment and answer your questions.
The intake process asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Eastern medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past trauma, lifestyle, or previous medical procedures, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark - good or bad.
When we are done talking and getting to know one another, I will allow you some privacy to get undressed and settled on the treatment table. When I return, we will work on a simple breathing technique that you can practice on the table and at home to heal yourself.
A typical treatment session lasts 75-85 minutes and includes continuous work on the front, back and extremities of your body. Your initial treatment will be slightly shorter (due to the intake process) and lighter in nature so that we can assess your response to the needles and moxa.
Many people find acupuncture treatments to be
deeply relaxing...
...and it is common for patients to fall asleep. In fact, falling asleep, even briefly is the very best thing you can do on the treatment table, as it improves the effectiveness of the needles and moxa. The deep breathing technique I will show you is so relaxing, you will find yourself doing it in times of stress, or just to unwind and put yourself to sleep at night.
